Case Study: Solar Powered Sign for Spring Branch Industrial Park in Cleveland, TN
Solar-Powered Entrance Sign at Spring Branch Industrial Park (Cleveland, TN)
Project Overview
Ortwein Sign partnered with Lewis Group Architects, the Cleveland and Bradley Chamber of Commerce, and other local partners to design and construct a state-of-the-art solar-powered monument sign for the entrance of the newly developed Spring Branch Industrial Park in Cleveland, Tennessee.
This sign serves as a striking landmark at the traffic circle entryway, designed not only to welcome visitors but also to reflect the community’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
Design
Lewis Group Architects developed the initial concept, while our team engineered and fabricated the structure to bring their vision to life. The finished sign is a tall, obelisk-style monument with:
-
Copper-toned siding and stone base for a modern yet timeless look
-
Illuminated lettering on all sides
-
A glowing white cap that serves as a beacon at night
-
Solar panels that power the illumination, reducing environmental impact and operating costs
Fabrication & Construction
Our fabrication team designed a steel and aluminum frame to house the batteries and lighting components, replacing a traditional solid concrete structure. This adaptation allowed for easier access and efficient integration of solar technology while preserving the architect’s intended aesthetic.
Solar Integration
-
3 solar panels charge batteries housed within the sign
-
A controller inside the structure regulates illumination timing
-
The system ensures the sign powers on each evening without reliance on the grid
With assistance from Wacker Chemie AG, a local producer of solar-grade polysilicon, the project emphasized both innovation and sustainability.
Collaboration
This project was a true community partnership, involving:
-
Lewis Group Architects
-
Cleveland and Bradley Chamber of Commerce
-
