First Bank – 1221 Broadway Signage Project – Nashville, TN

Project Name: First Bank 1221 Broadway

Client: First Bank of Tennessee
Location: Nashville, TN
Completion Date: March 18, 2024
Project Type: High-Rise Signage
Sales Rep: Ortwein Sign Team

Project Overview

Ortwein Sign partnered with First Bank of Tennessee to create a striking skyline presence for their logo atop the new 1221 Broadway building. Broadway Avenue is quickly becoming Nashville’s “new” downtown entrance, and the bank wanted signage that would stand out day and night. Our team handled the full process—design, engineering, fabrication, and installation—ensuring the signage integrated seamlessly with the building’s ultra-modern glass curtain wall.

Signage Provided

  • Custom 14′ by 55′ internally illuminated sky sign

  • Individual letters with GE 7100K LED illumination

  • Three-section 14′ tall frame for safe transport and installation

  • Custom 12′ steel hangers to attach the signage to the building façade

Project Challenges

  • Integrating a massive sign into the diamond-like, faceted glass curtain wall of 1221 Broadway

  • Designing the signage to withstand extreme Nashville weather, including high winds and tornado potential

  • Transporting and installing oversized, three-piece frame sections safely above downtown traffic

Our Approach

Ortwein Sign developed final designs and construction drawings for the project, engineering the hangers and frame to perfectly follow the building’s angles. Fabrication included precision framing and internally illuminated letters, while the installation team ensured safe and accurate placement of each section. We maintained a turnkey approach, managing every stage from initial design to final installation.

Impact & Results

The completed signage stands as a beacon for First Bank, visible for miles across downtown Nashville. The internally illuminated letters shine brightly on the skyline, welcoming residents, visitors, and commuters into the city’s evolving downtown corridor. The project reinforces First Bank’s brand visibility while complementing the modern aesthetic of the 1221 Broadway building.
