Professional Sign Removal for Businesses
When a business closes, moves, or rebrands, the old sign has to come down—and doing it right means the correct equipment, proper disposal, and often patching or repainting the surface left behind. Ortwein Sign provides full-service sign removal for storefronts, buildings, and properties throughout Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and the surrounding Southeast, whether it’s a single storefront sign or a building-mounted sign that needs a crane.
Why would I need commercial sign removal services?
The most common reason is a lease. If your business is closing or moving and you’re in a commercial property or development, your landlord will typically require you to remove your sign and restore the storefront at your own cost before you hand back the space. Rebrands and acquisitions are the other common trigger—when the name changes, the old signage comes down.
What types of signs can Ortwein Sign remove?
Just as we can install nearly any type of sign, we can remove any type too. With our expert field team of installers and our fleet of cranes, we remove everything from high-rise and rooftop signs on tall buildings to monument signs set in the ground. We also have interior sign specialists who handle interior removals, including vinyl, ADA signs, channel letters, and more.
What happens to my sign once it’s removed?
Typically, when we’re asked to remove a sign, it isn’t intended for reuse and will be disposed of for you. Because we don’t store removed signs, you’ll need to make arrangements ahead of time if you’d like to keep it.
Can I reuse and relocate my business sign at a new property?
If you’re relocating and your municipality allows the sign to be reused, we can handle both the removal and the reinstallation at your new property. Permits will likely be required, even when you’re moving within the same municipality—but our project managers will handle that and make the process as smooth as possible. If your municipality doesn’t allow the sign to be reused, we’ll help you decide whether to preserve it or dispose of it.
How much does sign removal cost?
Every removal is quoted individually, because a few factors drive the price. The biggest is access and equipment: a ground-level storefront sign one crew can reach with a ladder costs far less than a high-rise or rooftop sign that requires a crane and multiple trucks on site. Beyond that, cost depends on the size and number of signs, how they were originally mounted, disposal, and whether the wall needs patching or repainting afterward—most businesses don’t want “ghosting,” the faded outline a sign leaves behind, showing on the storefront. The honest way to get a real number is to tell us what’s coming down and where; we’ll come back with a firm quote.
