Over the past several years, the Tivoli Theatre has undergone a historic restoration, inside and out. The theater celebrated its grand reopening this week, and if you drive down Broad Street, you’ll see some of our team’s hard work on the front of the building.
About the Restoration
The Tivoli has been a Chattanooga landmark since 1921. The Tivoli Theatre Foundation has spent the last few years bringing the building back to its original look while making it work for today’s audiences, and it’s expanding next door with a new performing arts center. As the Foundation puts it, the goal is to “preserve the theater’s past while ensuring it shines for future generations.”
Our Work on the Marquee
We designed three custom-sized LED video displays for the marquee: one across the front, more than 46 feet long, and one on each side, each just over 12 feet wide. That’s about 225 square feet of full-color video. The Tivoli can update the marquee any time, for any show.
The marquee is a historic structure, so it couldn’t simply be bolted to. Our crew measured each face and built custom aluminum brackets and mounting tubes to fit the marquee’s existing ribs, one rib at a time.
What’s Next
We’re working on the Tivoli’s historic blade sign now, and there’s more new signage still to come!
A Hometown Project
The Tivoli opened in 1921. Ortwein Sign started two years later, right here in Chattanooga. It means a lot to work on a building that’s been part of this city as long as we have.
Thank you to the Tivoli Theatre Foundation for trusting us with it.
Watch our video of the new marquee on Instagram from the grand reopening celebration, or better yet, go see it in person after dark.
